Music has always carried me through life— the good, the struggles, and everything in between

Then, beginning in 2019 and extending up until now, the most uncertain years of my life hit suddenly. I felt tossed into an angry storm in the middle of an ocean. Particularly in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when the music industry was thrown off its rails, the dark concert halls and isolation from a cherished community of fellow musicians and our dear audiences was heartbreaking. I was missing a large part of what had always sustained me during previous difficult times.

On the road to recovery

Thankfully, the music industry has been coming back— live performances, lessons, workshops, competitions, etc. Yet the experiences and lessons learned over the last 3+ years remain. Uncertainty, isolation, personal loss, hopelessness, heartbreak, disappointments— those are not unique to a pandemic. As a musician, it is common to struggle with perfectionism and sustaining healthy perspectives about oneself and one’s abilities, growth, and learning (particularly when coping with brutal rejections!). So much has happened during these last few years, so many intense emotions have been felt, and so many conversations have been had with those going through their own hardships that I wished to create a way to take what seemed like unfortunate happenings and turn them into positive opportunities for learning about ourselves and our lives.
