Hi there! It has been a minute since my last visit here…. Summer flew by way too fast! Hope this message finds you well and gearing up for fall.
Currently, I am in the middle of preparing for a couple of performance opportunities in the next couple of months. There have been plenty of ups and downs, but overall, the direction I am heading in has me feeling excited, motivated, and hopeful. I can’t wait to share more about it with you!
One undertaking that served as a bit of a wakeup call for me was when I began learning the organ over the summer. It has been a while since I have learned a new instrument, and as a piano teacher, I felt it gave me a taste of what my students are going through right now. It truly takes time to get comfortable with all of the new motions required for smooth/expressive playing and trains of thought as you’re working your way through the music. Patience is key! Because I am so used to the piano and its technical/artistic demands, it can be easy as a teacher to feel like what you’re showing your student is easy or simple. But it’s new to them. They may need time to truly absorb what they are learning. The teacher has had years to develop these skills, and the student is only just hearing about them.
“The best teachers are those who know they are always a student.”
Looking forward to writing more regularly in the coming weeks. Thank you for being here!
